We sometimes can’t resist the temptation of unhealthy foods that are also delicious. But when we do get back on track, we put all of our trust in vegetables.

This is because we know vegetables are always packed with various kinds of nutritious components. So they can never wrong us!

The sinful nutrition where every veggie has a dark side is about some vegetables we know are healthy and nutritious but also have a dark side to them.

As I have mentioned before, there is a dark side to a couple of vegetables we know to be very nutritious and healthy for us.

Which ones?

I’ll give you a few examples of such vegetables in a moment!

Kale: The Dark Side


Do you remember when kale suddenly became one of the trendiest vegetables on the internet for all its health benefits?

Kale does have a lot of nutrients as well as useful antioxidants that can help our bodies reach their goal of healthiness.

Enough greens for a day!

But here’s its dark side! There are some components of kale that are harmful to us. They are called oxalates!

And oxalates actually have a negative effect where they can easily bind themselves to your body’s calcium.

Why’s that bad?

That is because this binding with calcium can potentially cause you to have kidney stones, which is a health risk.

So even if it’s good for you if you eat a moderate amount of it, it isn’t for those with a history of calcium deficiencies and kidney stones.

Spinach: The Dark Side


Another example of sinful nutrition where every veggie has a dark side is shockingly none other than the nutritious spinach.

Who would’ve thought?

Even though spinach is rich in vitamin C as well as vitamin A, among other nutrients like folate and iron, it has its negative effects too.

The oxalic acid in spinach is the main culprit here. Oxalic acid can cause interference between your body and its absorption of nutrients, such as iron and calcium, causing deficiencies.

So avoid eating too much spinach, especially if raw!

Carrots: The Dark Side


There is no way that carrots can be a part of this list, right? Wrong! 

Even though this veggie has high amounts of beta-content, helping your body create vitamin B and vitamin A from them, it has a dark side too.

And you should know how vitamin A helps with having a healthier vision, skin, and immune function.

But too many carrots?

Well, let’s say you’ll also be intaking too much vitamin A, which is not as good as you might think it is.

It can actually become toxic for you if you consume too much vitamin A, which even causes newborns to have defects.

Then, there’s also sugar!

The high amounts of sugar in carrots can potentially cause your blood sugar to be imbalanced, creating insulin resistance.

Broccoli: The Dark Side


Even cartoons have shown us the importance of eating broccoli in our childhood. It even has cancer-fighting traits!

And I am not even going to start with its antioxidants and other nutrients. But you know where this is going, right?

The dark side!

Broccoli has Goitrogens in it that can actually be harmful to people with thyroid problems, like hypothyroidism because it can intervene in the activities of your thyroid.


The sinful nutrition where every veggie has a dark side doesn’t actually mean all vegetables have these kinds of dark sides, but some, like carrots, broccoli, spinach, and kale, does. So never overeat these!
